Living accommodations include room for 25 live-in members, 17 of which are single person rooms. The station has three double bays and two single bays where all fire apparatus is stored. Kentland prides itself in providing superior service to it’s community including aggressive interior attack firefighting. The average experience of the department is 12 years and many of the members are paid firefighters with departments in the metropolitan area such as the DCFD, Fairfax County FD and Montgomery County FD. The volunteers of Kentland are made up of over 100 individuals, with 15 to 20 living at the fire house. Kentland Company 33 has also held the title of the busiest engine company in Maryland, busiest Ladder company in PG, as well as the busiest volunteer engine company in the nation as seen in Firehouse Magazine’s Annual Run Survey.

Volunteers respond to over 7,200 emergency incidents making it quite possibly the busiest one-hundred percent volunteer fire department in the world with combined apparatus responses of almost 13,000 per year. We protect a variety of critical infrastructure resources in our primary response area, including FedEx Field, the 92,000 seat stadium of the Washington Redskins, the Fire/EMS Department headquarters, the Health Department headquarters, a US Secret Service office building, and the US Treasury Department’s main storage facility for the ink used to print US currency. The KVFD covers a large response area, with a first due area of 19 square miles, and a box alarm area of 52.2 square miles. It is staffed solely by a dedicated group of volunteers 100% of the time, a surprising accomplishment in today’s society of decreased volunteerism. It is two of 47 volunteer fire stations that comprise the Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD). The Kentland Volunteer Fire Department is comprised of two firehouses, Company 33 and Company 46.
